Testing For Pool Health
Get a clear idea about your swimming pool’s health with our pool water testing service at NQ Pool Supplies.
Our free in-house service tests more than just chlorine levels and pH balance. We also check calcium hardness, cyanuric acid and total alkalinity. For saltwater pools, we test the salt levels, and for mineral or magnesium pool systems, we also check magnesium levels.
Bring in a water sample to our Smithfield shop for an on-the-spot result and we’ll make recommendations on the types of chemical treatments needed.
We recommend taking your water sample no sooner than 48 hours after adding chemicals. Or leave the whole process to us as part of our
regular pool servicing program that covers Cairns and the surrounding areas.

Getting The Balance Right
Did you know that weather conditions play a role in the chemical balance of your pool? At NQ Pool Supplies, we recommend the following program for your pool’s health:
- In winter: Testing can be done every month as the need for chlorine is reduced. Keeping the summer chlorine schedule when it is not needed can damage your pool equipment.
- In summer: It’s peak season for swimming, which means testing should be performed fortnightly – particularly for pH and chlorine levels. Other tests include calcium hardness, salt level, stabiliser and alkalinity.
- In the wet season: Torrential rain and storms play havoc with pH, chlorine and salt levels. So, when the skies have cleared, test your water and monitor for algae outbreaks.
